0:00 - 0:03 The transition to the song, and the excitement of the crowd on hearing the initial beats. Simply cannot be beaten. Love it!

I was at Wigan in 1974 it was the best time of my life and it was all high vibe just like this video shows, in fact I am sure I can see my ex husband Gary "Skin" as he was know from North Wales and yes everyone knew each other and we danced everywhere in many different clubs. It was the music

@ToneDeFF34........Totally agree with you - 73-74 and most of 74-75 WERE the best years for Wigan before it got utterly silly. [my brother and I first went in September 1973 - didn't go to the opening night as we were warned it was going to be raided]. But went every Saturday night from the second week onwards - and I have to admit it was pretty good, although the atmosphere was nothing compared to the Torch! Things continued like this until that fateful night in 1977 when the Casino's management completed its total 'sell-out' by allowing Granada TV to film inside Wigan for its documentary series 'This England'. It was an absolutely horrible night - made worse by the fact that my brother and all our mates decided to go to the Mecca as usual! [no idea why I decided to go to Wigan that night, but I have regretted it ever since!] I spent the entire night huddled in a corner, cracking up whilst trying to shield my eyes from the incredibly powerful arc lights. I never ever went back again! Anyway - this brings me to my question. Is this film really from 1974? To the best of my knowledge [and to repeat, we went to every single Wigan all-nighter from 73 until mid/late 75] and I don't ever remember filming taking place until the dreaded Granada TV documentary in 1977.

I agree totally I put it up and the video is from years later, put it up instead of a looking at a blank wall ha or wish I had video of the bogs and I agree entirely the Beachcomber was very foreboding but for a 15 year old in 74 it was all amazing but a shame for me as things started to go downhill after a few years and only went back for the Friday night oldies all-nighters which were awesome.

  • @mrmecca1248

Have to say I was there in 74 yes it is shite and I knew it was shite but the atmosphere it created with Gloria Jones etc etc was awesome for a 15 year old kid. I stayed for couple of years then moved on to The Mecca, never seen anything like that atmosphere since and I’ve been on the Northern, Modern, Crossover, Jazz Funk scene for 50 years.

It must have taken a lot of stamina and great 👍 rhythm to even prepare in the week in order to shift like they did! We @ the pier were great 👍 but you didn’t have lasers, strobes, and blasting bass to assist you!!! Good on you all admirable great dancing 🕺

Best tune from the best Dj at the Temple! Scuze the sarcasm! Shame theres not a real vid to go with it. The best thing about it is the claps! Begining of the end for many soulful peeps going through those hallowed doors. Breadheads Russ and Walker just wanted to grab every penny they could from the place. Letting in a bunch of divvy kids looking for the all night bar, watching the floorshow and kipping around the dancefloor. Leaving regular peeps outside that travelled far and wide each week. Yet we still soddin went every week. Alot of bad times along with the good. Just many with selective memories. Can't get over them! Geddit - geddit?? ;D Rant over.
